How it develops
It opens metallic and medicinal: saffron with its dry, slightly bitter bite, labdanum already sweetening underneath before the leather has properly announced itself. Within minutes the birch tar takes over and stays there, tarry and smoke-blackened, less a note than the whole middle of the fragrance. Agarwood pushes the smoke further into resin as the hours pass, and benzoin finally rounds the edges, turning creosote into something balsamic and warm without ever making it sweet.
